ILDG President Marc Cools has convened a group bureau meeting to discuss the situation of local democracy in times of global health crisis and the functioning of the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities and the ILDG group during the challenging period. The virtual meeting was held on 5 August.

The Bureau exchanged views on the consequences of the pandemic for home municipalities and regions and shared the different adjustment strategies at the local level. The Bureau called the Congress to remain the beacon of democratic values for local and regional authorities and proposed for the Congress to discuss at its next meeting the function of local democracy in times of pandemic.
