36th CONGRESS SESSION: STRONG COMMITMENT OF THE SOCIALIST GROUP.

The 36th Congress session (1-4 April 2019) saw an intense participation of the Socialist Group in all the main dossiers examined by the Assembly and the Commissions.
The President of the Group Piero Fassino was a speaker for the Partnership of the Congress with Morocco and for the Report on the role of local institutions for the future of young people. Xavier Cadoret, President of the Chamber of Local Authorities, carried out the report on the prospects of the Council of Europe and of the Congress. Barbara Toce introduced the report on the budget and the financial perspectives of the Congress. Johan Van Den Hout carried out the report on the verification of Powers. Joia Meijers introduced the report on protection of the whistle blowers.
During the numerous debates, many representatives of the Socialist Group took the floor, including Karl-Heinz Lambertz (Belgium), John Warmisham and Peter John (UK), Peter Kurz and Josef Frey (Germany), Francis Lec, Nawel Rafik-Elmrini , Jean-Pierre Liounville (France), Leen Verbeek (Netherlands), Yoomi Renström and Inge Schorling (Sweden), Svetlana Goryacheva (Russia), Tamar Taliashvili (Georgia), Breda Pecan (Slovenia), Pedro Cegogno (Portugal), Belinda Gottardi (Italy).
The Group also held its plenary meeting which examined the reports of the 36th Session, approved the final financial report of the Group for 2018 and an the provisional report for 2019, listened to the information on the results of local elections in Turkey and Slovenia. The Assembly then discussed how to make visible the "plural" character of the Group which has 200 members, of which - 160 from socialist and social-democratic parties and 40 from green parties, reformists and progressive democrats.
