POLAND: DEFEND THE INDEPENDENCE OF MAYORS
"The assassination of the Mayor of Gdansk, Adamowicz, has made clear the pressure and intimidation condition to which local administrators in Poland are exposed. The climate in Warsaw is getting heavier: journalists, magistrates, university professors, mayors are daily subject to restrictions that conflict with the rule of law and European standards regarding freedom and civil rights. For this it is necessary that the Congress Monitoring Commission maintain a permanent observation on the Polish situation and protect the independence of the Mayors, calling on the government authorities to respect the Charter of Local Authorities of the Congress that Poland has signed and shared "
President Piero Fassino stated this in 36th Congress session on the debate about the situation in Poland.
