THE MOROCCO PARTNERSHIP OF LOCAL DEMOCRACY

Date(s) the 02/04/2019

Morocco is the first country to which the Congress confers the Statute of Partnership of Local Democracy. The decision was adopted unanimously on 2 April by the 36th Congress Session on the basis of a Report presented by Piero Fassino, spokesman for the Congress for the Southern Mediterranean Partnership and President of the Socialist Group of the Congress. A large and authoritative delegation of the Government of Rabat and the associations of local authorities in Morocco attended the Congress and participated in numerous meetings.
"The Partnership - said Fassino in his speech at the Assembly - will strengthen the cooperation of the Congress with Morocco, in the realization of a strong and widespread local democracy. And a first challenging common field of work will be the regionalization program of Morocco for which the Congress will provide legal, technical and training assistance ".
"In a Mediterranean area affected by crises and conflicts - added Fassino - the Partnership with Morocco also represents a contribution to the stability and security of the region. A stronger local democracy can contribute to a safer and more stable Mediterranean ”.
